THE REHEARSAL
26th September 2016, a rehearsal was held for the Hari Anugerah Kokurikulum dan Sukan SMKDB. With anxious face, the students took their allocated position at the stage. When they struck their first few bars on the 'Getaran Jiwa' all the working committee for the events who were present at the hall,  stopped abruptly at whatever there were working busily on, to lend their ears. Their final piece 'Can't Help Falling in Love' in a lively fast beat was loudly applauded. This was enough to warm the hearts of all who were involved in making it possible.

THE DEBUT
I must say that I am really impress of the angklungist of SMK Dr. Burhanuddin. Remarkable! Within 3 weeks they successful gave a clean performance for the first time  in front of the VIPs of Perak state, the alumni,  school society, teachers, parents and their fellow schoolmates. As expected, their first few  struck on the notes of  'Getaran Jiwa' was overwhelmingly welcomed with deafening applaud from the audience. Likewise the applaud was loud for the  second piece 'Can't Help Falling In Love' in fast lively tempo was welcomed by the angklungist with wide grins on their face. Pak Radja and I are content.  Needless to say the students deserve every credit for their hardwork and sacrifices. Yet, behind their successful debut is a line of teachers who are extraordinary.
Bravo  Puan Hjh. Nurolizam bte Bidin,(the PK 1), Puan Hjh. Roslina bte Abu Bakar, Puan Hani Sutina bte Hanapiah, Cik Nadzirah bte Md. Zawawi and Cik Zuridah bte Ahmad. Another salute  to you all!

The line of 'Orang Kuat'

SM Dr. Burhanuddin Taiping Angklung Group

It is our greatest pleasure indeed to come to SM Dr. Burhanuddin, Taiping. When I first set eyes on this school, I felt strongly drawn to it.
After finalizing the family's decision to move and settle at  my husband's hometown in Taiping, the utmost search in many aspects began.  But one of the most crucial aspect was the search for the 'right' school for my boys.  Back in 2014, we spent many months in doing so.  The need to find the 'right' secondary school for Ejjy is essential as he will only  have a year to prepare for his upcoming PT3 and a couple more years after that for his SPM exam.   Therefore to get the 'right'  secondary school to accommodate my  second son had become my top priority then.
Seeking advice from the locals, they gave me a list of best secondary schools around Taiping. All with impressive track of records to be proud of. Determine to enrol my son to the 'right' school that he will be comfortable and at ease, we visited and observed  each and every  school from afar. On our first visit to SMDB, my mind was already made up. And my husband's and Ejjy's thought alike.   I am thankful that we have done so owing to the fact that Ejjy's grade has tremendously improve and he is very actively involve in his co-curricular activities. Thank you SMDB for having him there. May he continues to flourish for us!

Thank you SMDB for giving Ejjy's opportunity to represent the school English Debate team 2016

The dream that one day  SMDB will have its own Angklung Group was first expressed by the school former Principal, Tn. Hj. Aminudin Bin Mohd Nor

Today, the dream came true. Puan Nurolizam ( PK 1 ) made it possible through her hardwork and perseverance, who has been teaching in SMDB for more than 30 years! Thanks to her  close connection to her former students, who are  most of them are listed to be among the successful and influential figures in  Perak community.  For the love of their former school and the enduring respect to their teacher without much hesitation help out in funding for the Angklung Group of SMDB.
What a spirit!

Malaysia Tanah Airku

Malaysia oh tanah air ku
Tanah tempat tumpah darah ku
Negeri elok amat ku cinta
Yang ku puja sepanjang masa

Sawah mu terbentang meluas
Tumbuh-tumbuhan hijau merendang
Bukit mu lurusnya terbentang
Tak jemu mata ku memandang

Sungguh indah di Malaysia
Negeri yang kaya raya
Tempat pusat berniaga
Terkenal di seluruh dunia

Malaysia negeri ku Malaysia
Pusaka tinggalan moyang ku
Tetap sentosa hidup merdeka
Malaysia tanah air ku

Forever grateful to be a Malaysian..

In Loving Memory to Suzzanne Maclean Kula

Deeply sadden by the recent news, the sudden passing of

Suzzanne Maclean Kula

A good friend

A very committed colleague

A remarkably talented music teacher

A dedicated teacher

Suzzanne was playing the keyboard, accompaying the Angklung Orchestra performed by The Education Ministry of Sabah, Malaysia
led by Pak Radja

PAMIT ..."izinkan ku pergi dulu..apa lagi yang engkau tangisi"

A loving mother of two ( 9 year old daughter and 2 year old son )

A dutiful wife

till the end...

On the fateful day of 15 July 2016, Friday at 1130 am, Suzzanne who was heavily pregnant of her third child was abruptly taken away from us. A four-wheel car rammed into her vehicle after the 27 year old driver lost control of his car while negotiation the downhill slope of the route.  She was pronounced dead at noon at the nearby clinic.

She will be sadly miss by all who knew her, as she was a very helpful and cheerful person.
Sweet as her lovely face suggested.

Today, she was laid to rest eternally, side by side with her 'unborn' baby.

Farewell  dearest friend.

May your soul Rest In Peace

Angklung : Shaking it in Pak Radja's Way

Doing  Angklung
 in Pak Radja's way
You may notice that there are a few variation in the way how one may hold or shake the angklung. Go creative and inovative! But then there some important factors one ought to take into consideration if opting for the best sound and effect.
Let us see how is it done in our way. After all sharing is caring, right? The following are  how to hold, shake, and play angklung in Pak Radja's method, Malaysia's Angklung Maestro.
How to hold
Left-handed player
  • In order to have a firm hold on your Angklung, grip it with your left hand. Position your angklung with the higher tube on your right hand side and the shorter tube onto the left
  • Vice versa if your are left-handed.
  • Hold it straight and not slanting

Where to hold
  • Grip at the middle of the upper handle of angklung with your left hand
  • Position your right hand; thumb and forefinger (pencil grip) to hold at the lower part of the angklung outer frame
  • Keep both arms in straight position while playing

How to shake
  • If you are right-handed, use your right hand to shake the angklung (similar to scribbling)
  • The left hand acts as an anchor; hold without moving.
  • Vice versa for left-handed player
  • The quality of sound produced is much determined by one's firm grip, the fine and precise 'scribbling'

    At ease
How to hold more than one angklung
  • Determine the position by the size
  • Position the bigger angklung nearer to the body.
  • The bigger and heavier angklung can also be hanged at the arm. While the smaller angklung is held by fingers
  • Allocate ample of space between angklung

Variety in playing
  • For the long and resonating sound; fine prolonged 'scibbling'
  • Determined the dynamics; strong and firm 'scribbling' or soft and subtle 'scribbling'
  • For staccato; slant your angklung slightly and tap lightly (with the tip of the fingers) on the edge of the lower horizontal tube (centok)
  • For sound adaption; mute one of the vertical tube by gripping it firmly to the frame while shaking (tengkep)

tengkep

    Let's keep our Angklungshaking!
